My friend recently found a tick on her finger. She managed to get it off but it's been a week or so and she says it's still sore. She tried to squeeze it to get the infection out but she said it made it feel worse. She also used neosporin. What should she do?

It sounds like the head may still be in there. Sometimes the body just comes off and the head stays buried underneath the skin. She should see a doctor to get it out.

There is also a disease that some ticks carry called Lime disease. If the spot where the tick was looks like a bulleyes on a dart board she needs to see a doctor. Lime disease is very serious but treatable.

First of all you never want to squeaze something to try to get out what may be an infection... that will only spread it. If it was a tick bite I would go to the doctor to have lime disease checked out, its very common in some states, and very common in California.

She should go see a doctor. Part of the tick may still be in her finger, plus he can help drain the infection and prescribe antibiotics. In addition, if it was a deer tick, she may need to be tested for Lyme Disease.

If her finger is red and swollen, definetly tell her to go to the doctor. I think she should go any ways just because it hurts. I have a friend who had heart damage because she had a tick bite that went unchecked. Tell her to GET WELL SOON !!
