Given that all credit card companies are essentially the same, why is it that Capital One is one of the largest issuers in the country? Because in the final analysis, they are a pretty good credit card company.

All credit companies will charge you for being late. But so will the electric company, phone company, government if your late paying taxes, and so on.

The practices that cause heartburn with the credit industry are the ones that allow consumers to hang themselves. Overlimit fees, late fees, repricing, all of these can be avoided by simply paying the minimum on time.

When you compare the fine print on how these charges are applied, you will see that Capital One is quite fair.

Also, Capital One is the only credit card not charging fees when using your card overseas.

Try looking at www.moneysavingexpert.com It's a good site for comparing financial products like credit cards and loans etc and you can't beat the professional advice of people that follow these things all the time. On here you'll learn from peoples own experiences, but like a restuarant, it will be to some peoples tastes, but not others. Capital One do some good rates and balance transfers but they can take a lot of time to process your application as so many people apply due to all their advertising and sometimes they add conditions like you need to spend a certain amount on the card to get the benefits. Be sure to look at a few different companies before applying and think about what you want it for. If we're honest though - no credit card is good to have!! Hope that helps!!

It is strongly urged that you not use Capital One to help you build your credit...or for anything else that has to do with credit.
The credit card industry earns 1.2 trillion every year, but that isn't enough revenue for them. They want more and more, and so almost all of them, without exception, have adopted unscrupulous policies and procedures designed to steal more of your money. For you, this means paying bogus late fees, having your interest rated unjustly raised, and being charged for products or services (such as credit insurance) that you never ordered.

Don't think that being a good customer is going to protect you. Paying your bill on time each month will not protect you. Many of the major issuers -- First USA, Chase, Capital One, Providian, Citibank -- have been sued over practices regarding unfair billing practices and blatantly using tactics to cheat you out of your money.

There is plenty of evidence that indicates most credit card companies think you are rather stupid and will not put up much of a fight. So, they can easily use dirty tactics to cheat you out of your money.

Capital One should join the circus. It has more tricks up its sleeve than any magician we know of. Its favorite is the low-limit credit card that, through sleight of hand, goes almost immediately into the over-limit category, piling up charges, fees and penalties faster than you can say abracadabra.

The above comments are from individuals that possessed a capital one credit card, no doubt there are some people out there who had pleasant exeperiences but they are few in number. The decision is yours my advice to you is to check the Better Business Bureau website to find out if getting a credit card with "Capital one" would be beneficial to you. Check out the second link for this.

Unfortunately, the Better Buisness Bureau did not have "Capital One Credit Cards" on their website which means it didn't rate high enough to be recommended to others. Inquire on this website if you want more information.

This is a really difficult question to answer because it all depends how you plan to use it. If you won't pay it off in full every month then you should be looking for the lowest %APR. If you will definitely pay it off in full every month then you should look for a cash back credit card instead. If you want to move some existing debt around then you should be looking for the best balance transfer deals. And finally it depends on you credit history, different card issuers have different interest rates according to how they perceive you as a credit risk.

Capital One - Great Card to have a wee bit more pricey on the APR% rates than the high street banks - but more easy to get hold of... and they keep putting your limit up..and sending you cheque books..Ideal if you want to build up your credit rating..but like every credit card - they are not slow in charging you for being late with your payment...

that is a loaded question, it depends what you want to get out of the credit card, and it depends which of their cards you have.

i have one of their really high interest (not good), guarenteed (i had to pay 200 up front) cards with a 200 limit (also not good considering the deposit i paid). however they gave it to me just after i was discharged from my bankruptcy (so it was good for me because i now have something i can use to buy online etc), it has allowed me to rebuild my credit rating (also good, because now i can get normal cards) and i pay it off every month so it has cost me nothing (also good)
