Your first mistake is believing you NEED a boyfriend. Wanting and needing are two different things. Make sure you want one and don't think you need one.

Have you tried talking to him? Make friends with him, get to know his personality, and make sure that he really is someone that you want to spend time with. There are a lot of guys out there that are "cute," but you don't know until you get to know them if they're really worth your time.
Also, in your question you stated that you needed a boyfriend. I'm kind of curious about this. Why? Is there a dance coming up? Or all your friends have boyfriends? Don't sell yourself short, or settle for less than your standards because you "need" a boyfriend, because let me assure you, you don't. You may want a boyfriend, it may be a lot of fun, BUT if you rush into something with the wrong guy thinking that you "need" a boyfriend now, you may really regret it later.

You should just go ask him out... he can only say no, i mean, ehat's the worst that can happen? Make sure you are sure you really like him and are not just doing it to get a boyfriend. Good Luck.

I am sure you know what to do, and you know how to do it.
The underlying problem is your fear of rejection, therefore, you are cautious as to which of your feminine wiles you choose to engage.
Just remember that you are going to a big plus in his life and he should feel lucky that you have selected him as your kill, . . .er . . .I mean choice. :>)
No guts, . . . .no glory.
Just step up to the plate, and go for it. Remind yourself that either you and he will both be winners, or you will continue to be a winner and he will be a . . . . . . .loser, for having lost you.

you should never need a boyfriend you should want one and if you like him try talking to him or give him a little smile while you look in his eyes and see if he smiles back if he does you have found your next boyfriend

strike up a conversation wit him u r tryin to find out about him if he is single if he aint move on if he is continue talkin go out n u guys will bcome close over time

tell him you like him and then walk away and if he likes you back he will come to you if you dont do this you will wonder the rest of your life what things might of been like if i would of told him the truth about my feelings towards him.
