In short, you can't. Sadly this is something she pretty much has to deal with by herself. Nothing you or anyone else can say or do can alter her emotions, not in the longterm.
You are obviously a kind person for wanting to help her. The only thing you can really do is let her know you're there and she can talk to you if she needs to. I have a lot of experience with the illness Depression and unfortunately there is no quick solve-all solution.

I don't think you can make her happy at this point in time. She is feeling so depressed that she tried to take her life. Just be cool and be her friend. Cause a good friend is always a welcome when you are so depressed. I had a roommate that did that. I just had a feel something was wrong when she came back on past. So i keapt checking our room and i found her on the floor, and got the staff. She later thanked me, for saving her life. When she finally came back to the unit we were on no one wanted her in their room. I would of had her back. She had to learn to rewalk and that. Now we are good friends and have been for years, and she is happy , and got married and has a little boy to raise. So best thing you can do is keep an eye on her, and listen to her as a true friend will , with out judgeing her. There was a reason she did that, maybe she will tell you one of these day. She needs to work though it, but she needs good friends too that will listen and stand at her side.

You should not feel bad as your roomate is responsible for herself and her actions. If you are a supportive person to her that should b enough. People who are close to those who try to hurt themselves often feel guilt but they have no control over the person's actions.

I don't know sweety....just give her support....Tell her how much you care....I actually knew a girl when I was in the hospital...She said when she gets released she was gonna kill herself...So I told a staff member and they helped her. But just give her love and show you are there for her.

It will be impossible to make her happy in the traditional sense. She is obviously depressed. She needs to seek professional help.

You cant. Your former roommate has some serious problems you cant deal with. She will need doctors and nurses to help her get well. There isnt much anyone else can do.
