Flying from Adelaide to Sydney at Xmas with a suit case full of wrapped presants for the kids, will I be ok with batteries and similar items?

I think you should be OK flying within Australia. Check with your carrier to make sure. Here's the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority site to check: http://www.casa.gov.au/airsafe/index.htm and here's their page on Important Security tips.... scroll down to "what can't I take on the plane". http://www.dotars.gov.au/transport/security/aviation/factsheet/fact14.aspx

Happy travels!

Yes, if the suit case is a checked baggage. (For details of prohibited items in USA, refer to www.tsa.gov).
