Antibiotics can kill the good bacteria in the gut as well as the bad, causing thrush. It is this reason your friend suggested yoghurt as the natural variety contains ingredients that are good for this. Unfortunately yoghurt on its own is not sufficient when it has got this bad. In the UK you can buy a thrush remedy over the counter at boots. It usually clears within two days. Best of luck.

1. IT IS NOT JOCK ITCH
2. DON"T GET HER ANYTHING TO PUT INSIDE OF HER UNLESS THE DOCTOR SAYS SO>
Most antibiotics can cause yeast infections and NOT thrush in females. Have her eat yogurt or drink milk with acidophiles (spelling) her medication is killing the good things in her body as well as the infection.
Call the doctor, they will tell you the same thing!
JEEZ, do people actually say things like this to people? It really is a sad world when someone asks a perfectly normal question and some people have to be so disgustingly flippant!
Yogurt and some milks have live cultures that the body needs, especially when taking antibiotics. I am a nurse, not a doctor, but aside from that I am a female and mother to 2 daughters and 5 grand daughters. This is one of the first things you will learn as your daughter gets older.
It will take about a week for this to clear up. Have her eat 2 yogurts or drink that special kind of milk twice a day for about a week and it will help. Be sure that she takes a shower in the morning and at night before she goes to bed and rinses very well. She may even be experiencing some pain but this is so minimal it shouldn't be a problem.
Good Luck
Blessed Be

The poor thing... it is thrush, which can be very uncomfortable. If you don't want to take her to the doctor, go to your pharmacist, he or she will be well able to help you select a product. There are lots of over the counter creams, etc for treating thrush. Get it sorted soon though.... she'll be in bits the poor thing!!! Natural yogurt is really soothing and can be a lifesaver when itchy and sore like that - you can get her to smear it on the area and it will instantly cool and calm the irritation. The live cultures in the yogurt (must be live yogurt) actually help to neutralise the thrush infection and the coolness of the yogurt soothes the itch. It is important that she treats the infection medically though to really get rid of it... the pharmacist will help. To prevent it re-occurring get her to take a probiotic supplement every day - actimel, tablets, whatever is handiest for you.

It is probably thrush as antibiotics cause this - especially long term or strong courses. You can treat it with yoghurt - easiest applied inside by dipping a tampon in the yoghurt. It may ease the itch slightly. However I would say go to the pharmacy and but Canesten - they sell a single capsule to deal with the internal problem and cream for the outer area. Its about £12.00 for the lot. xxxx

Strong anti biotics can cause thrush- its very common and nothing to worry about.
You can buy Canestan (sorry dont know if thats the right spelling) cream, and tablets and something your daughter can insert inside to help clear it up!
Natural yogurt is also fantastic for your daughter to use until you can get hold of the other stuff from the chemist. Just get your daughter to dip a tampon into the yogurt and insert normally. Your friend wasnt winding you up- yogurt is great for this, as long as its natural, dont want no strawberry or blackberry lol.

As im a fella im not qualified really to give instruction on the probs your girl is havin...im no doctor and really you should be asking him or the nurse... The itching could be a side effect to the drugs your daughter is on and therefore nothing will remove the itch. See your doctor with your concerns, maybe there's an alternate anti-biotic your daughter can take.
Just keep things clean and clothing loose and make sure she doesn't scratch.

Your friend is right about natural yoghurt, you are supposed to apply it to the affected area. That doesn't sound very nice but it works. She could also try drinking cranberry juice as it's been proven very effective. The over the counter remedy is called Canesten Duo, this consists of a cream and suppository (tablet to insert into vagina). You can also get an oral tablet (canesten)which is meant to be as good. Hope this helps.

she probably has a yeast infection, talk to your doctor. some antibiotics can cause yeast infections...a friend of mine when ever she had to take them also had to have something for y.i. too so the doc would prescribe both. this doesn't sound like thrush because it usually occurs around the neck region and sometimes the belly, it sounds like a yeast infection call the doc. also you want to be careful too because some ppl can develop allergic reactions to antibiotics especially those in which they have to take it for a long time and these reactions can be serious and sometimes deadly, so again call your doctor and tell him/her all the symptoms. and they can prescribe something else. also medication for yeast infections is now sold over the counter so you can also ask your pharmacist but the age of your daughter has to be considered too.

Yep - this always happens to me when given antibiotics. Don't worry, it's not serious. Just go to the chemist and get a tube of Canestan thrush cream, and if the itching is most severe internally then Canestan also make pessarys.
