My husbond and I can't agree on Barolowine. Is it a name of an area in Italy or is it a brand like Champagne? Could you make Barolo in other countries?

Barolo is a wine traditionally produced in Piedmont - that is where I am from. It is made with Nebbiolo grapes, and produced in a very specific area (Langhe). It is DOC (Denomination of Origin Controlled), so one cannot make Barolo out of there.

It became fashionable when the Savoia court (kings of Italy at the time, quite a peasants' court...) became enamoured with it, and made it the court's wine a couple of century ago... It is a wine comparable with Bordeaux, both for typology and for aging potential - in this perspective, it is very fairly priced... buy it young on a good year, cave it, and drink in 10 years.

Note that Champagne, on the contrary, is not a "brand", but a region in France....

Barolo wine is made from the niebolo grape in the Piedmont area of Italy. Right at the base of the Italian Alps. So no you couldn't make it in other countries. The only other wine made from the niebolo grape is the barbaresco which means little Barolo and is truly and excellent wine in an of itself. Both crops reached there pinnacles in the year 2000 but had stellar year right before the millennium. If you can find a 2000, or 2001 or a 1998 then buy it and enjoy it for under $60 bucks. It must have the Italian government seal besides BRUNELLOS from Tuscany, Barolos are the Best wines Italy has to offer! Ciao!

Barolo wine can only be produced from a specific region/area in northern italy, which is exactly the same as champagne. Champange can only be produced in the region of epernay, france. Any other sparkling wines in french are normally labelled as Cremant followed by the regions name.
