In moderation, coffee isn't bad for you. In fact, the worst thing in coffee is the extra cream and sugar that many of us add for taste. That part isn't great for your teeth, but the coffee itself is fine. It does have caffeine in it, but that's not exactly a bad thing. The energy that it provides can make you more alert, more active and (temporarily) better able to think productively. Coffee has been used to help manage asthma and even control attacks when medication is unavailable. People have also been using it for years to stop headaches or stave off a bad mood. All these benefits are a direct result of the high caffeine content (you'd have to drink something like 10 times as much soda to get the same effect). Coffee beans are also really rich in antioxidants. If you want the antioxidants without the caffeine, then just drink decaf.
If you want the health benefits without the sugar, ditch the heavy, Starbuck's style drinks and have your coffee black or with non-calorie sweetener. Also try drinking stronger brews like espresso for the best benefits.
