Yes, but they are not cheap at the Duty Free Shops because of
high rentals and profit margins. Cheapest would be in Hongkong
but not at the DFS. Have a look and compare anyway.

Yes, you are. They have superb duty free shops and well stocked. I am not sure, though, that the product which you mention is cheaper there than in the UK's. £89 is equivalant to around $200USA. I do not imagine that Sony Erriccson K750i will cost that much in Seoul duty free! I might be wrong! However, taking into account the general price index of all countries in the world, goods in Seoul are certainly cheaper than those of the UK. This means, in principle at least, that Seoul duty free should equally offer cheaper prices than UK's.

As far as I am aware you have to stay 24 hours in a location to be able to buy duty free but I suppose that different countries probably have different rules.

All I can say is that when my parents went to the US and then over to Canada (Via Niagara!), they bought duty free but were told that they shouldn't have done because they hadn't stayed the 24 hours. I have no idea if this is an international ruling or just US.

I would imagine that if you are in transit you are not just going there and coming back! If you are, perhaps it would be a good idea for you to ask the people that you are meeting to get the phone for you - that is, if they are in transit, too. The alternative is at another transit or destination airport you can look for your mobile phone.

Actually, I think that £89 is a bit expensive for the phone. Try speaking to the networks, they can usually do a better deal.

yes. the main target for dubai duty free are the transit passengers, not outgoing traffic. there are much more transit passengers through dubai to and from Asia to the rest of the world than any other airport, hence the huge duty free present.
