frontline works, but not cheap, I know petco also has low cost vaccination clinics, they check out your pet and can help out. they're not there all the time there's a schedule usually found at the store. Items can be bought on petco.com.
if its severe infestation, no med on it's own will work, baths and house cleaning needed, since they can live w/o host for days. If the cat's in and out of the house its hard. none of these flea meds kill fleas instantly, it takes days so theres more that needs to be done
speak to a vet or professional,

You can buy various frontline products at the vet, you dont need an appointment or alternatively you can have an injection which lasts for 6 months and may work out cheaper as it is easier to prevent than to get rid of fleas. Also if your cat does get fleas remember to treat the house (carpet etc) as this is where most of them thrive. Only use products for cats as some people think tou can use dog flea stuff which is toxic to cats and can often be fatal

Hi Red,
Most peeps on here agree that Frontline is the best treatment for fleas. Don't hesitate to go online to purchase it though because it is half the price at least (some I've noticed pay up to £30 for six months) to what you will pay at the vets. Try this web, it is the cheapest I have found, no p+p and delivered 2 days later:
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3
Follow the instructions explicitly for maximum effect, and don't forget for cats it should be used every 4-5 weeks.
3 ampules cost £9.39 6 ampules £15.39
Best Wishes

Frontline Plus. I've used flea collars on my cats for years, but now I only use this stuff. It's not cheap - I've got eight cats and it cost me about £30 - but it's good. And Frontline plus stops the flea/egg/larva cycle. You can buy it online but it is a prescription drug, so you'd have to see a vet in order to get the prescription. but it's well worth it. If money's an issue, go to the RSPCA or Cats Protection League. Good luck with him, and happy Chrimbo! xxxxx

As the others have said, Frontline Plus is the best by far.
Please NEVER put a flea collar on a cat or buy the OTC flea drops from the grocery store, both have been known to cause some very nasty side effects in cats...some resulting in death.

All the supermarket stuff does is irritate the fleas, to kill them you need to buy the stuff from the vets. It is expensive but the only way to get rid of them properly.
Use frontline and then get a spray from the vets to spray around your house. This kills them on contact and lasts for about a year

All you have to do is go to your vet's to get some Advantage or Frontline. You won't have to pay for an office visit. It's the only thing that works and doesn't cost much. Plus, your kitty will feel alot better, too!

I would also recommend getting the stuff from your vet to get
rid of the initial infestation (you can also get the medications
from websites - I've used 1800petmeds and have been happy
with their service).
Once you've gotten rid of the fleas and their eggs in your house,
keep the cat inside. All of my cats are indoor-only and I generally
only have to re-treat them if there's a VERY bad flea season
going on, about once every three to five years.

We used to use Frontline with our cat - it's without question better than any of the shampoos or sprays you can get in pet shops.
You can also get drops that you put on the back of the cat's neck that make the fleas sterile, so none of the eggs hatch. It takes a generation to work but you're not spraying insecticide everywhere.

At your local pet food store, ask for "Frontline". Tell the clerk how many lbs. your cat weighs to get the proper dosage and follow instructions closely. I would use no other brand. The supermarket sells a similiar product that in my experience is very dangerous. My cat got very sick and I thought she was going to die.The brand in the supermarket to avoid is HARTZ. I've also heard other horrer stories about the use of this product. I hope this helps.
