A hellova alot more died in the first week of WW2 than the entire time we have been fighting the war on terror since Sept. 11, 2001. Isn't it strange how we forget the cost of Freedom, and why it's worth it.

Alan H; Good question, but why stop looking at the last 40-50 years? WWII was fought for mostly the same reason as the more recent "wars", to stop the spread of Communism, that was the primary reason for the political success of the National Socialists in Germany. Americans will say we expend all this energy fighting, and have become the world's policeman, to avoid having to fight a real war. Personally, I believe most of the killing has been for nothing, except chest thumping threats to the primary enemy. Your reference to the so called, "Domino Theory" is well stated. If any military action required an act of Congress, and an official declaration of war, there would have been no Korea, Vietnam, Iraq two, or Afghanistan wars. With the possible exception of the latter.
