I had a cat once that was up the tree, hiding all the time!
Not that anyone wants to hear this, BUTT, I may never have any other reason to share this. I noticed her running and stopping and swatting at some tinsel over and over, she'd turn around and swat it. Apparently she had swallowed it, and it was trying to make it's re-appearance into the world, it was hanging out her rear end. Half in, half out. I had to remove it!! GROSS!!!
Needless to say, that was the last year there was ever tinsel on my tree, cat or no cat. Damn, I'll be remembering this all day now!! Probably not exactly what you wanted to hear :))

I think its almost in a cats nature to like christmas trees. Probably because its something new and that isnt around all the time.
A couple of years ago we had two kittens at xmas time and we had a fake tree.
The kittens used to sleep in the bowels of the tree and our other cat the morning just after we had put it up took a flying leap at it and knocked it over.
Once we got a real tree they werent as interested as it wasnt as comfortable to sleep in.

Yes I have two cats and they are both five years old and every year I have the same problem, they eat the tree and the presents, and sometimes the ornaments. Only at certain hours of the day though, usually at about between 5am and 7am. That is the only time they mess with the tree. Other times they both sit in front of the tree and stare at it for hours, but they dont do anythig to it. They also unwrapp presents.

I'm sitting at work petrified because I forgot to close the living room door on the way out today,,,,,,, it could mean serious trouble. We have 3 cats, one who is older and a misery and then two kittens with gails in their tails. Tony, the older one, pulled the tree down about 5 years ago but is too fat and lazy to be adventurous now. The kittens, however, are mesmerised. It starts with the gentle tap-tap-tapping of a bauble or two near the base, and ends up with a power launch off the sofa to knock the tree off kilter and send the decorations awry. So while you're having your tea tonight, think of me picking up the pieces of a shattered Christmas, with two little cats sat in my presence feigning innocence and blaming the other one.
I'd have it no other way!

yes, cats love christmas trees. They love to swat at the things hanging from the trees and they love to hide underneath the trees too. If the swatting at the ornaments becomes a problem, you should move the ornaments farther up the tree out of the cat's reach.

Wouldn't you be, if you were a cat? In fact, aren't you?? Don't we all just sit and stare at our beautiful trees?? Just a word of caution at this time of year... as you open your decorations, be careful what you do with the cellophane wrapping. There's so much of it around and it's easy for a cat to ingest it. This happened once to our new kitten and it made her so sick the vet insisted we put her down. Not a merry Christmas event! On the other hand, we had another cat who believed, year after year, that the styrofoam gingerbread ornaments were real and nibbled them time after time! We finally threw them away when there wasn't one that had remained untasted!

We put up two Christmas trees, one in the living room (for the pleasure of us and our indoor cat) and one in the conservatory for the pleasure of our mainly outdoor cats. Our indoor cat doesn't take any notice of the tree, on the first day we put it up she swatted at a couple of baubles, that was about it, however our 3 outdoor cats are fascinated by their tree, they love to swing off it trying to knock the baubles and probably the whole tree to the floor.

Yes, you are not alone! The trick I use is to pin the tree to the ceiling with either button thread or fishing line, and that way the whole thing doesn't risk falling over.
My old cat used to eat the Lametta too. I suppose it was a sort of festive grass!!
