Try Garlic.

I tried it on a hunch and it worked like a charm. Never had a re-occurance again.

Allicin is the chemical in garlic that is activated when garlic is cut or crushed.

I took a fresh clove of garlic, bit it in half and rubbed it on the cold sore. It stung like hell, but next day, it started to go away and I haven't seen any re-occurance again.

Cold sores are a result of immune suppression, and probably nutritional deficiencies.
For an acute outbreak, which you obviously have, take 1000mg L-lysine three times daily between meals.
Lemon balm extract applied four times daily is great for healing cold sores.
A 30C potency of the homeopathic remedy Herpes Nosode triggers an immune response to the herpes virus.
Lomatium root (1ml or 500g four times daily) is great during an attack.
If you're not allergic to bee products, propolis tincture or ointment four times daily to the affected area is helpful.
1000mg Vit C with 500mg bioflavonoids, three times daily, improves immune function and reduces the duration of the infection.
30mg zinc twice daily, along with 3mg copper. Zinc supports immune function and has been shown to reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of an outbreak. Topical application of zinc sulfate has been shown to reduce the recurrence of outbreaks. Licorice root extract cream is also helpful.
Go to a health food shop and ask for any or all of the above, plus anything that supports immune function, like echinacea, spirulina, probiotics, etc.

Avoid foods that contain L-arginine, as it may stimulate the virus. These foods include peanuts, almonds, and other nuts, as well as whole wheat and chocolate. Reduce or eliminate refined sugars, as they interrupt healing and suppress immune function.
Acidic foods, such as grapefruit, tomatoes, oranges, and other citrus fruits, may aggravate cold sores and should be avoided during an attack.

Good foods include: legumes, fish, turkey, chicken, and most vegetables. Bell peppers, brussels sprouts, broccoli, potatoes, and other brightly coloured vegetables and fruits provide vit C and bioflavonoids that help heal the skin.
Fish such as salmon, nuts like walnuts, and seeds such as flaxseeds provide essential fatty acids that are necessary for tissue repair.

I hope this helps :)
