first of all, the priests that did this sex crime, sadly, molested altar boys. There are married man in society that molest children, so I don't think letting priests get married will stop that. Those priests are preverts. They wanted children, not adult women.
Early church priests were always allowed to marry. Ever since the beginning of the Church. St. Peter was married while he followed Jesus and through his life after being appointed rock of His church. Almost all the apostles were married. So it deemed reasonable to allow the early priests to marry. This rule was changed only about 400 yrs ago (I think) because the Vatican thought that it would be better if a priest dedicted his whole to the church and his congregation. With a wife and family he would have to give half himself to his family and half to the congregation. He would be pulled at times. And many times would have to be away from his family because the priesthood is a 24/7 job to the congregational members, being called for last rites, guidance in the middle of the night, etc.
I personally think a priest shouldn't be married. But I see many other Christian leaders, ministers, be able to handle it all. And if priests were allowed to marry again, then I think more men would become priests. A man can love God and his wife and children equally. There are many devote Catholic men that are married today that wanted to be a priest early on but fell in love with a woman and couldn't. So maybe the Vatican should allow it back in.

i'm a former Protestant who switched over the Catholicism. The question isn't why does the Church interpret some scriptures actually and others not, when you consider for you to ask this of any denomination. the actual question is who has the authority to interpret the scriptures interior the 1st place? Protestants will stand on man or woman interpretation, besides the undeniable fact that, they take a stand it is against scripture itself: 2 Peter a million:20 - "comprehend this in the beginning, that there's no prophecy of scripture it is an argument of non-public interpretation". subsequently, if a protestant provides me their interpretation of a bible verse, i could desire to ask a million) with the help of what authority do they interpret the verse, and a pair of) how do i comprehend their interpretation is precise? The historic reality is that the bible grew to become into written, compiled, and canonized with the help of the Catholic Church. it quite is a e book born from Her sacred custom. this means that She on my own has the authority to interpret it. She on my own provides us the precise meaning of the sacred scriptures. God bless.

You seem to think that people become sex offenders because they're Catholic priests. It is more likely that people with problematic sexualities (like paedophiles) join the church in the hope that the vow of chastity will help them deal with it. When homosexuality was taboo, Catholics who confessed to it were invited to become priests (many still are) as if you're celibate, it doesn't matter.

You people seem to think that priests turn into child molesters because they take a vow of celibacy.
How does this explain that there are an equal or greater number of pedophiles among teachers, doctors, coaches, and clergy of other churches.

I don't think this will ever happen in the Catholic Church. The CC follow both scripture and tradition. The apostles left everything they had, even their families, to serve Christ and spread the Word.

Why should they change? Oh wait! They change their minds ALL the time on what God's word is. Did you know that it is now ok for a Catholic to use birth control? The diagnosis must be at bare minimum dysmenorrhea (painful periods). But no one can disprove that!

And what about other religions? The Church is currently dealing with these issues and things are coming back on the right path

The Roman Catholic Church give up paganism - highly unlikely - its is what makes the Church unnatural - but we will see!!!
For thoses who don't know the behavior of religious leaders not marrying and/or having sex is a pagan belief that Roman Catholic Church adopted. See the book "A History of God" by Karen Armstrong for more information http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780345384560&itm=5

Catholic priests were allowed to marry once.
Why the change? Who knows. You cannot suppress human nature. We see the results of their efforts.
