If I would see an alien, I wouldn't believe in religion.

"Well, you see little alien, I'm sure you have make believe stuff on your planet. When your little alien children cry about the monsters under their beds, you pat their heads and tell them it's just their imagination, right? Well, when a whole bunch of those children get together and flat out refuse to believe there are no monsters under the bed, and in fact cover their eyes when you attempt to show them proof by lifting the bed off the floor, then you're off to a good start.

Now, get the head child to lead all these other children, and to tell them stories about how the monters under the bed will drag them down to a scary and evil place if they misbehave, but if they're good little aliens, they'll get a big surprise, and be able to live forever and forever! Get this lead child filling their heads will all kinds of fairy tales, and you now have a religion!!

Weren't things much simpler on your planet? Yeah, I shake my head too, no worries."

I'd go get my intro to cultural anthropology text book and read the section on religion to the alien. Anthropologists are aliens in disguise.

Perhaps, for the benefit of others you should have said ET?
To explain to an Alien about religion would be rather easy. I would point to myself and say "Nutcase" Then point to a zealot and say "see?"

Now if God is an all powerful being, who spans time and space, like all religions would have us believe, I wouldn't need to explain it to them, would I? Besides, they'd probably be just like us. Here to civilise the savages, and bring us into the light. Just like any good missionary! Won't that be fun?!!!

you wouldn't have to. aliens probably went through the same thing, until they met aliens like us.

on this plane of existence no one has ever seen the wind, but everyone has seen the effects of the wind so therefore the wind exists. GOD is like the wind. all one has to do is look into the heavens and earth to see the wonders and glories of GOD'S Handiwork. yet GOD, HIMSELF is like the wind invisible to mortals 5 senses. personally refer to GOD as either THE GREAT MYSTERY or THE SUPREME ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE. on this plane of existence we have developed many different NAMES for GOD and various Rituals and Ceremonies to Honor, Worship, Praise, Pray to and Petition, Thank, etc. etc. our version of GOD.

You would say we live our lives believing in lots of things that cannot be proven by logic and he would get back in his spaceship and leave realising that humanity is still too primitive and backwards to interact with extraterrestrials.
