You need to burn nearly 4000 calories to shift 1lb in weight. That's serious exercise!! To lose weight you will need to lower your calorie intake as well as exercise. The good news is exercise speeds up metabolism, and as you burn fat and build muscle more calories will be burned, as muscle needs more energy. Good luck with the weight loss.

I think so, but it's more of a function of your real goal. Consider weight loss: you should burn as much as possible. 1200 calories sounds about right, get a good sweat. Cardio health: At least 20 minutes, 3 times per week at your taget heart rate. This is about 400 calories or more each sitting just on cardio only. Just fooling around: 300 total is just fine. On a good day, I burn 1000+ (700 in cardio and long enough in the weight room - supersets with little rest) to qualify. Years ago when I was in freak mode: 1100 calories for 1hr cardio. Plus 1 hour body part specific weight training

Yep - you start burning calories when you are working at 70% of your maximum capacity - which is generally after about 20minutes!

But to lose weight you need to burn more calories than what you eat - and take into account you burn calories doing everyday things.

So yeah - probably about 500 calories is about right.

But if you were to use some weights as well that also helps to speed up your metabolism. If you decide to start using weights, start on a lower weight anad do more repetitions, then gradually increase the weight. If you are unsure ask one of the instructors in the gym!!! They're always happy to help - as scary as they look!!!

i used to burn 150cal on treadmil and 70 on bike. and in the resting period my body burned like 60 cal more.. and i did weight lifing and rowing. i used to burn about 300 cal, at gym.

Ur maximum heartrate is 212.... never go over that.. And i suggest not 2 do weight lifting.. Try working on bike first..

To maintain weight? Try burn the same amount of calories that you take in.

around 400-500 basically you start to burn fat after 20 minutes of exercising so any thing longer than that is all good!
