Not good to hear, but may be useful to know what didn't turn your date on, and what makes your date not click with you.
But then again, if you think you're perfectly alright, ie no problems with lots of other dates, then why bother to hear it?
Rejection = no chance to further develop a relationship.
The best bet is to move on to greener pastures, and think it's the other party's loss.

From what I recall of dating (it's been a minute or two) it all depends on the nature of your date, was it to start new relations? Be it friendly, platonic, sexual or romantic. Most relationships can have a rocky start, but given time, most things can bloom, personally, I would love to hear what went wrong with the date, for if it was me that did wrong, then I would be able to improve upon it. But as you said, easier said then done. I say go for it. Better to embrace it then to ignore it.

Are you thick-skinned or are you sensitive? If you ask someonne what they don't like about you, and you get an honest answer, more power to you. Most people will lie and make up something on the spot, i.e. "I'm going through some rough stuff"..."I just got out of a bad relationship"..."I'm getting really busy at work"...etc. rather than risk hurting your feelings, because most people are emotional liars.
Me, personally, I'm kinda sensitive, so it might get to me a little bit, but personally I'd rather know so I know what to work on for the next time.

I think the truth would be great to hear if it was with someone sincere and that you have known or been together with a long time.
The best is if, as you said, on adtae, with a person you hardly know, is to keep quiet and forget about it i.e. the whole date and the person.

If you move on you gain nothing. If you ask the question and you find that it was something small and easy to change then Life's good. What if the person has no problem with you and believes that you would not want to be seen with them?...

It depends. I'd rather hear that kind of information from longer term relationships that end because they actually know me and I respect their opinion, even though it can be excruciating. From a first date, nah... I assume we just weren't compatible.
