Hi there!

I have IBS also. Some 20 years now.
Mine is caused mostly by my nervousness, which is chronic.
But it also flares up by what I eat. The things I love to eat most, irritates the bowels.... like fruits, veggies...salads, my favorite.
I am suppose to eat a rather bland diet.
When an episode is starting, usually after eating a meal, it feels like a volcano just getting going in my stomach. But it's not my stomach that's brewing. Its my lower intestine sending my "waste" to the bowels. I feel gurgling going on, then some cramping. Then I know it's time to get to the bathroom.
When I "go", it's like an explosive discharging. A lot of pressure behind it. I've never taken any medicines for this.
I hope this info is a help.
Take care!

They're starting to recommend that people with IBS, or IBS-like symptoms be tested for celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats). A lot of people with celiac were misdiagnosed as having IBS for years. (18 years for me). It takes an average of 11 years for a person with celiac to be diagnosed. They have found that 1 in 133 people in the US have celiac, but only about 2% of them know it. Most people have never even heard of it.

Here's a webpage by the National Institutes of Health on celiac -

If that starts sounding familiar here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac and other gluten intolerances.

You can also be intolerant to other common foods and get the symptoms you are describing. Soy, corn, eggs, yeast, dairy, etc. You may want to think about keeping a food/symptoms journal and see if you can identify the culprit(s).

For all human ailments, vitamins help put the old flesh into working mode. Try C for starters.
