I hate going to a dealer to buy a car!! I have done my homework and want to buy a Hyundai SE, but the dealers add on a bunch of garbage and jack up the price. How much is it realistic to pay for the car.

go to the hyundai website. Hyundais are great cars. We own both the elantra and honda civic. the hyundai is a better made car with alot less problems than the civic IMO

I agree with others...go to the website..

Also, go to Consumer Reports and get their annual auto issue. It'll give you a good estimate of the actual wholesale price of the car (what the dealer paid). Keep in mind however, that this price does NOT include incentives given by the manufacturer...for example...Hyundai Motor America might sell the Elantra GTs to the US dealers for 3500 below sticker because they want them to sell...

Look at the list price (the price they have on the sticker) and compare it to the price of the car in Consumer Reports. Pick a price between the two if you're happy paying it.

For example:

Hyundai Elantra GLS with AT, AC, all that stuff
Sticker Price : 14899
Consumer Reports price with same options: 11299

Tell them you'll offer them 13000 for the car.

Good luck. We're off to buy a new Elantra soon too..our '02 GLS is gettin' to be a hi mileage vehicle.

key important one here http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/hyundai/elantra/100812875/prices.html

SE version comes in at 15695-16695 with automatic...invoice is 15500 for automatic so i wouldnt pay more than 16000 for an automatic SE, and dont agree to any admin fees they want to charge outside of regular licence plate and air conditioning tax (if any), also check on fuel savings benefits etc. Hyundai and mazda love to charge admin fees of 100-300 dollars which is pure profit and a scam, also do not buy any rust proofing/undercoating or paint extra finishing, what a scam

If you want it new, go to Consumers Union and get their information on dealer costs, options, and the like. (There is a fee.) For used cars, go to Kelly Blue Book at kbb.com; it's free.
