I recently found a abonded baby kitten on thursday. Whom is severly mal-nutrished. The vet gave her nutri-cal..a concentrated paste filled with protien, fat, and all sorts of vitamins. He also gave pedalyte to mix with her kitten (KMR) milk. She was also given anti botics to take twice a day for 5 days. She went to the vet on early saturday morning.

She hasnt gone poop in a little over a day. She urnies normally. I've been massaging her belly and rubing her anus with a warm towel...as i was told works.

She hasnt gone yet and its making me worry! Can someone please give me some advice...until i can call her vet. what other things can i do to make her poop...why isnt she pooping, and how often should she poop daily. Shes 1 pound.

Thank you to all who have been helping me with all my kittens questions.

I would say, in this case, give it a day or two. IF she's one pound and found abonded it will take her body some time to adjust to the nutrition she is all of a sudden getting. I know its scary but this is something you can not rush. It is a good thing that she is urinating because that means her body is still functioning enough to filter out toxins. Cats like to think they don't need people but they do. :) I had a kitten that was the only surviving kitten out of the litter. His mom had rejected him and he was scared and tiny. We had to force feed him because he would not eat on his own. He recovered with some adjusting. It will take time for her to get used to you because of the pain inflicted on her by her mother or the people before you came to her rescue. Whatever you do, don't loose hope, she will make it through because she knows that she is loved by someone that loves her. For her, that may be all that she needs to know.

Because she's so malnourished, she probably will not have a bowel movement for a little while. Her body is going to work very hard to use up all of the nutrients she is being given. Keep in mind she is only drinking milk and eating paste right now. If you were starved and then started drinking milk and eating ketchup it would be a little while before you did much but pee! So don't worry.

The pedalyte is hydrating her (I believe?) which is what she needs most right now. It sounds like you're doing an amazing job caring for this kitten. I am so happy to hear she made it through the first night!

she could have an intususseption (oops spelling not flash) Basically its when the bowel telesocopes back oniself, she has all the signs, my kitten had it and was able to be saved by an operation, cost a fortune but worth every cent.... til the ex neighbours moved and kidnapped her and took her with them! Grrrrrrr!!!

give her some herbs or grass so that she can poop. It helps. However, if she can chew then give her lil tiny pieces into her mouth.
