The pointers in the file directory are deleted. The files remain there, until they are eventually overwritten by new files, or re-assembled defragmented files. At some point BEFORE they are overwritten, they might be recovered.

The deleted files remian in the hard disk however, teh first letter of the file name gets modified to teh sigma character in Ascii code in the directory structure thereby indication the operating system that the space occupied by the deleted file is available to be overwritten. That is why, data recovery softwares are able to recover deleted files. However, once files get written in the hard disk, the chances of recovery of the deleted files reduces as the space occupied by the deleted files is been overwritten by new data.

On a windows computer :
- If you delete a file, it gets moved to the "recycle bin".
- if you empty the recycle bin, the file is removed completely
Any deleted files can be recovered with special recovery software though. Unless you have NSA grade deleting procedures :)

It relies upon on what working equipment your employing, alongside with what document equipment your employing. as an occasion, on domicile windows employing FAT32 or NTFS, a deleted document is unquestionably merely deleted from the document allocation table. To the working equipment and the informal viewer, the document seems deleted. even with the undeniable fact that, the document isn't fairly deleted. it remains there till the working equipment overwrites the area on the disk the place the document was. by using fact of this some courses can get well deleted information. to truly delete a document, it no longer merely desires to be faraway from the document allocation table, however the area on the disk the place the document is residing desires to be overwritten. There are courses you will get that do this as properly. ~X~
