I get a lot of comments and criticism about my accent, but I came to this country way after I was 12 (then something happens in your brain and your way of speaking is formed). But do people care? I can't really understand why they are so concerned in making me feel bad about something I can't change. I would call them ignorants and tell them that it's not their problem or business in anyway, but my work position just doesn't allow me to do so. Any suggestions how could I retort without them running to my manager?

I am sure we have an accent also. I would just ignore them, not worth the energy. For these kind of people nothing would work because their minds are already made up.

Your language skills will improve with practice. You would not have been hired if your manager did not think you were capable of doing the job; it would reflect poorly on their judgment . Your first allegiance should be to your boss, and not being able to deal with fellow employees could look like perhaps you are causing a problem or can't do the job.
We all have accents. I have hearing difficulties that I deal with. It was not easy for me to become a teacher in linguistics, but it was worth the struggle. I cannot understand some peoples "English" . Clear thinking is more important than ones dialect.

I think having an accent is a good thing. It speaks of individuality and that in order to speak a language, you don't have to speak like the natives!

However it is important that your accent does not get in the way of people understanding you, since that would be a problem.

Otherwise, it does not matter if they go to your manager saying you speak like your mouth is always full, there is no law in the world which could get you in trouble for speaking like that.

Best of luck!

Stop being upset about it.
Your reaction to the teasing is the main reason for it to keep going.
Join in, make a silly joke about your own accent, and they will stop.
I'm an Irish girl raised in Germany, and the same happened to me, so I do know what I'm talking about, although I lost most of my German accent in the meantime. Sometimes I can say 5 sentences in a row without anybody noticing! ;-)

hey..you know, just keep cool. i know it's hard, but just imagine them speaking your language. when i was in england they made fun of my german accent... i think you'll just have to accept it. and don't let them see it annoys you. if you don't even react, maybe they stop it.
why do you care what they say about you?

Just ask them politely to say something in YOUR language and see what happens. And of course, pick something GOOD and HARD to pronounce :)))

Being polite, telling the person or people how you feel, and stand up for your country tongue.
