Of course, I can donate money and food. Are there any other ways to help them?
It pains to see the rich enjoying their lives and wasting money and the poor struggling to manage for one square meal a day.
It breaks my heart to see the poor. I wan't to do something, but I just can't, I don't know what to do.

You can get the most bang for the buck if you follow my advice closely. Contact the IRS and see how you can donate money to the VITA & TCE programs. I have worked 36 years as a VITA volunteer. VITA is Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and TCE is Tax Couseling for the Elderly. Volunteers do income tax preparation and problem resolution for people who cannot afford professional help. This is done without charge or obligation. I use my own computer and provide the printer, paper, toner, utilities, yaddah. I do over 400 tax returns in a season for people who otherwise most likely wouldn't get a return filed. All of them have refunds coming so you can see what I mean about getting the most bang for your buck. Any money put into assisting these two volunteer programs will help many people get refunds that they would otherwise never see. With EIC and CTC the refunds reach up into the thousands of dollars each.

I feel your pain and I see the same thing happens in U.S. But, the poor in the development countries does not have like people in U.S. So I urge you to join the people who lent money out for the poor such as Kiva in San Francisco. Kiva is doing Micro financing. You give $50 and your money can help the poor in the third and fourth world. Check Kiva from Yahoo or Goggle search for more info. Good luck.

Friendship and teaching the poor to trust you is the key to any union so I suggest to go to the church and find out who needs a big brother and then become his mentor and education is the key,,,It all begans with just one kind deed at a time,,,through being a big brother you then reach the whole family and then the cousins and it really snow balls. Good Luck,

If you have seen some families in financial difficulties, walk straight to them and give them some financial help. No one will reject this offer of help if you are sincere enough. This is better than donate to charity when some needy families didn't get what they really need.

1. Stop stealing from them (and stop others from stealing from them). Are they poor because they have been denied respect, opportunity, and justice? Can you work towards fixing this?

2. Help them to help themselves. There's no simple answer to this because people are poor for different reasons. Giving handouts indiscriminately runs the risk of engendering habitual dependency on charity as an alternative to climbing out of poverty. Find out why people are poor and help the ones you have the skills/time/resources to help.

I met a group of homeless people and take them blankets and food sometimes. Some of them are working, but don't have transportation, or they don't have money for deposits to get a place.
