It may be possible for a VERY, VERY few to stop using, by themselves, but the overwhelming, vast majority of people need support, as recovery from addiction involves behavioral changes, and changes in ones thinking patterns !

Some people will be able to "fix" themselves from addictions without outside help.

Most people do need some form of assistance though.
Friends, Family, Teachers, Co-workers - all can help, even if it is just by giving an encouraging smile when you tell of a small success.

If you want to stop any addiction, i would suggest you find someone you can trust to help you. It will make it easier.

Yes it is. I am a recovering alcohlic and drug addict who has been clean for eight years. i went through Rehad 3 times, but unless you want to quit, you wll not. Rehab did not help me as after I got out in less then 8 hours I was using again. After about 6 more years using I decided to quit on my own I am not CURED as no one never is, but I take it day by day. It is easier now, but still a battle, and I know if I start again I will likely die this time. Its not the fear of death that keeps me straight, but respect for myself and my family Living is more scarrier then death.

I am no expert but Iknow of a person who has quit smoking. She has put on weight. It depends how disciplined you are and how much you really want to quit. Australia has a lot of anti smoking commercials plus a quit healthline. You might find a similar Quit programme in your state or ask your doctor for advice.Good luck.

If you are strong minded and you have the help and support of your friends and family I think that you can. However having the additional support of someone outside your general network of friends and family such as a counsellor would also help you and help keep you on the right road. This is because they will give you another perspective and you know that they will not judge you and that you will be able to tell them things that you wouldn’t necessarily be able to tell friends and family members

hmm thats a loaded question... ive been dealing with addiction for over 2 yrs now but its not my own... my boyfriends hes addicted to everything...drugs, gambling, money... the key is YOU HAVE TO WANT IT!! we have been taught all our lives not to be a quitter so... you tell me.. ive tried to help him but the only person that can help is you... therapy might help you in terms of getting things off your chest and finding out why you abuse things but all in all its like i said above you have to do it urself and want to be normal and healthy with out them

Its very simple...3 words...Don't do it...actually, a lot of people need help with addiction...Depends on the addiction, too...but, seriously, if it has taken over your life, i.e. impacted your personal or professional life, you probably should seek professional help...

Some can. But they are few.

There are _____ anonymous meetings everywhere. You can find eetings in the classified secion of the newspaper most of the time. Attending meetings is like pulling teeth without anaesthesia, but it's like they say: it works if you work it.

Be well.
