There is never a good reason for Marines - or any other service personnel - to die. Unfortunately it happens all too often. American military men and women have fought and died on foreign soil and on the world's oceans practically since our nation was born.
Our reasons for being in Iraq have changed over the past months, from the initial shock and awe phase to the present patrol and protect missions. Protecting the Iraqi people against a well armed (and largely foreign supplied) insurgency that seeks to topple the new Iraqi government in its infancy. An insurgency that apparently regards torture and terrorism as legitimate means to an end; that end being the destabilization and eventual armed conquest of the entire middle east and the extermination of every non-Muslim - initially in the middle east, and eventually throughout the world.
I wish I could say that events taking place around the world are not our concern; that our military should be for the defense of our nation and no other. The problem with that is that no man is an island. No people can prosper and thrive in isolation. What affects the world affects America, and vice versa. Surrendering Iraq, and eventually the entire middle east, to the fanatics of the region will impact us right here at home.
There are those who would argue that the safety and security of the region would be better left to the United Nations. I believe that the UN security forces have been so hamstrung by restrictions and regulations to the point that putting them in charge of the security of the middle east would be like chaining a guard dog in your front yard after making sure that the animal has been neutered and has had all its teeth removed.
Until the world governments can come up with an acceptable alternative America will continue to be the guard dog for the planet, and American military men and women will continue to ensure that this big dog has a devastating bite and great big set of ba...
To you, and to all the men and women of the American armed forces, Semper Fi!!!

No body evers dies for generally good cross when they are aske to kill their fellow man. However, are they doing what is required of them when called to duty, yes. I think that the Marines like countless of American's do..eve if their idea has slightly faltered
believe in the idea of freedom and democracy. I also do believe that many Marines had the intention that this was their claim to war, to bring something we take for granted to other people. the problem with this is it's dragging on, and the democracy pictures is becoming hazy, and too many people are losing their lives in a battle that does not seem to be near a solution. If you are honestly..somehow now I feel like they should be left to their own devices..it's not fair that so many American men should die for a goal and mission that isn't being practiced in their own country.

There are 23 million people in Iraq - and right now their only hope for a better future is the US service member.
These people voted in a constitutional democracy. Now they are asking for us to help them until they can defend themselves.
I would say that providing a future to 23 million people is a 'good cause.'

Wars are planned by world leaders. The secret behind is business. Marines are dying not a good cause. Those stuff who die young could produce better and healthy babies. Read between the lines.

We have no business in Iraq. All of the reasons we were given for going there in the first place have been exposed as either lies or errors. Marines die every day, for what? So we can say we toppled a dictator? That isn't a good reason.

You are there now, whatever the intial fallacious reasons for involvement. Better if you find some means of leaving with the infrrastructure rebuilt that just leaving chaos. Containment is the best option. Pull all the troops there to the Kurdish zone to protect them and guard the borders.. let the "civil war" run its course

Logically, can you think of a way to exit without leaving Iraq high and dry?

Soldiers from the field could/would be the best source for your answer ...not any of us not there.
But I would say no...they have a job, and they know Iraq has one hope at this time: US marines and soldiers.
