Our cat is about 9 months old now and I've never been able to rub it's tummy without getting clamped on. It just likes to bite. What can we do?

There's probably one of two reasons why your cat bites when
you try to rub its tummy.

1. It doesn't like it.
2. It's playing.

I have 8 cats, and two of them will tolerate having their tummies
petted. I've only had one cat my entire life that actually enjoyed
it.

My cats will, however, frequently roll over onto their back or sides
when they are playing, so they can get all five of their weapons in
on the action (remember that a cat's playing is mimicking/training
for natural predatory behavior). I'd recommend that you NOT use
your hands to play with them in this situation - it's very easy for
cats, particularly kittens, to get carried away and bite hard enough
to break the skin. And while this might be cute in a kitten, it's NOT
cute in an adult cat. Kittens need to learn that hands are not
toys. Toys are toys. Hands are for petting!

I have 8 cats, almost all of them do not like their tummy's touched. Only one will let me rub her tummy and its only for a short while. Try to keep with rubbing behind the ears or under the chin. Try and build a trust between the two of you, if your cat decideds to let you touch its belly it will let you know. Otherwise stay away from that area.

some cats just get over stimulated quickly. Most will bite then. Watch it's tail, if it's start flickering there's too much stimulation. Back off.

It could also be that s/he hates the tummy rubs. Please respect that. I'm sure you have some places you rather not be touched...

Just because it's a cat doesn't mean you can do what you want. If the cat is letting you know that it doesn't like rubbing, STOP. It may be ticklish. Is your cat a he or she? You call your cat "it".

Cats are very particular about how and where they are touched. Try not rubbing it's belly until it lets you..that's the way a human-cat relationship is..The cats are in charge! Haven't you ever read "Garfield?" ( :

Some cat's don't like to be rubbed at all.
We have two, one will let us rub her stomach & the other will attack. She will tear us to shreads if we even atepmt to touch her stomach.
Good Luck.

Don't rub his belly. He's biting you because he feels betrayed. Cats expose their bellies to show they trust you, and you are betraying his trust by reaching for it.

Stop.

Stop rubbing it's tummy - it obviously doesn't know how to appreciate that.
