Paul said it well:
Timothy II 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Timothy II 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Psalms:
Psalms 52:3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness.

or Isaiah:

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Because of it's(world) prince (Devil)
John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

John writes:
John I 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Why do you say "nowadays"? The question has always been intriguing from the very beginning. The only difference maybe is today, people are a bit more critical and people no longer accept morals with blind faith and tends to always question them. But disagreements does not imply that we cannot tell the difference.

We are way pass the age of innocence where we can comfortably ignore the question of good and evil. Have you ever wondered why the forbidden fruit in the Bible is the fruit of KNOWLEDGE? I've always considered it as a symbol for the end of innocence and the throwing out of Adam and Eve from paradise as the symbol of the angst and the burden of our new knowledge. And so began the mission of the church, to bring us back to innocence by making sure we know less and less. Why lay these troubles on a troublesome mind? If only we stop thinking and criticizing, and just have faith and believe! Then we will be innocent again. Then everything will be simple again. To hell with freedom that knowledge gives us. Give me ignorance so I may again pretend that I know what is good and what is evil.

What makes you think that your ability to tell good from evil is any worse today than it was in the past?

People who use the non-word "nowadays" almost always go on to complain about how things are in comparison with some mythical golden past, and it's almost always to push some overly-simplified notion of how to solve our problems.

Maybe because evil is just a word describing something very personal such as ethics? Some people think gays are evil. Some people might ask why we cant see gays for the evil people they are to which I'd reply talking about ignorance and bigotry.

You need to be specific.

Because everyone has a different point of view.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
Here's some examples -

List these people in one of two groups, either good or evil :

Che Guevara, Stalin, Fidel Castro, Pinochet, Nelson Mandella, Pulan Devi.

Yes you can, you just have to know what to look for. See who is the deceiver and fake. Don't let the cloud of hypocrisy fool you, there is a definite line between good and evil.

For two reasons:

1. Relativism. We are constantly being told that whatever is true for you is true. We no longer hold absolute beliefs in right and wrong. If you tell someone that they are wrong, you are homophobic, racist, a biggot, inciting hatred etc etc.
2. People no longer believe in good and evil. They no longer strive for what is good. We are told that we should just do whatever feels right.

For starters, it's nothing to do with religion - it's to do with discipline during childhood. Whilst the P.C. do-gooders are all around telling parents that they mustn't give their kids a slap round the ear when they've done wrong, they'll never learn the difference between right and wrong.

People who have nothing in the skull still find themselves in such situations.

Otherwise, everyone can distinguish evil from good.
