There are those of us who know your pain. I too, lost a cat I had for 17 years and it still hurts. I will pray for you and your family as you go through this difficult time. Try to ease the pain by acknowledging that you gave her the best life possible, and ask God to give you the strength it takes to let her go. Your love for her won´t want to keep her suffering. Hold her while she slips away... so that her last breath will be with the security that she wasn´t alone and that she was loved.
Don´t let those who don´t understand get you down. There´s a special place in Heaven for God´s creatures because afterall, He created them first. Here´s a link where you may find solace and comfort:

My most heartfelt sympathies to you. I have cats too, and recently had to put one down, so I know how you feel. If there is a God, he knows you already feel sorrow, but you are also being merciful, and mercy is the best gift we give to our companion animals. I will keep a good thought for you, and please accept my profound sorrow for your loss. But don't cry because she's gone; rejoice that she was here. Keep her in your heart and she will live forever.

I already have & know that even though this is probably one of the hardest decisions you have ever made, that soon Cuddles will no longer be hurting.
I feel your pain, know that.
God Bless you and your family at this most difficult time.
