The pendulum is always swinging. There is no absolute answer to your question.

What good are rabbit punches that have no effect on a tank? What good is a sledge hammer against somebody who side steps?

Train for power, then speed comes naturally. Make sure movements are crisp, sharp, effective, and strong. Once the muscle memory kicks in, speed is easier to attain.

Oh, and for the record, I'd gladly take a fist to the face over a .45 slug from a Desert Eagle to the forehead anyday! And if you think they aren't good quality, you've never handled one...

Generally, speed equals power. The equation for power is mass times ACCELERATION SQUARED. Therefore, the speed of the technique is more important by a square factor than the amount of mass behind it.
What this means is that in many cases, those lightweights can generate more power- pound for pound- with their techniques. However, the reason lightweights cannot USUALLY beat a heavyweight lies not in the amount of power they throw around, but in how much punishment they can TAKE. A lightweight will be KOed by the same punch that a heavyweight will take and keep going.
Hope this helps...

It's completely possible to have both. The dojo I study at now prefers speed and fluidity to brute power. Raw force isn't great by itsself, and neither are flashy hands. You need, and can have, both simultaneously.

I would say fast (but balanced) foot work is an advantage over a static position... but having trained in hard karate styles and Judo I find myself capable of being nearly immovable when I want to be.

Let's not forget the all important timing.... The right punch, elbow, and/or kick at the right time can knock your butt out. If done right, you might not even know it happened. A short review of UFC, kickboxing, and boxing shows this.

You want to have both speed and power. Both can be trained, they are not mutually exclusive.

It really isn't speed beats power... It is timing the right strike will beat an opponent regardless if they are faster or stronger.

good question. whether, you're rather asking 2 distinctive questions. the 1st question is an oxymoron, so enable us to make clean the subject, and then we are able to brush off it. speed can't be separated from skill in physics. "skill is the time fee of doing artwork or, the quantity of artwork executed consistent with 2d". As you in all likelihood understand, a horsepower is a unit of skill sufficient to advance 33,000 kilos one million foot each one million minute. The mass is a element of the equation, yet so is era (speed). What you mean to invite (i've got confidence) is speed as against mass, because of the fact the acceleration of a punch (speed to optimal speed) combines with the mass of the fist, arm, physique, to equivalent the rigidity or skill perpetrated on the recipient. in this question, you're dazzling on the mark! The greater speed (acceleration) the greater helpful! you could not replace the mass of your fist/arm/ physique, so as that's in reality a given volume (until you advance you mass by using advance, bodybuilding, steroids, and so on.) you could advance your speed (acceleration), and so as that stands out as the dazzling answer. Boxers choose speed. Tyson and Foreman might haven't any skill in the event that they did not advance up their mass. Given the same acceleration, the bigger mass (Tyson/Foreman) could have greater skill than smaller mass (Robinson). (the different posts that communicate approximately different products including accuracy are ideal, yet stray out of your significant question). Given mass as a consistent, boxer's choose speed. Given equivalent speed, greater suitable mass provides greater skill. yet for this reason we've weight divisions, so the mass element is extremely even. speed, returned, is the the rest element. Now that we've clarified the subject, another ingredient could be revisited. If Tyson and Foreman have super skill, they could additionally then have super acceleration. take a seem at Tyson in his best, and you will see a fighter with a lightening rapid jab, and hooks too rapid for shielding action, returned, you could not separate acceleration from skill, even from much less-lively heavyweights. Their skill photos rather do have speed besides. thank you for the exciting question!!

blaken if I grabbed a handful of your nuts you would go wherever I wanted you to go, so shut up with that tough guy. not every fast fighter is going to beat a strong fighter and not every strong fighter is going to beat every fast fighter so stop with this stupid generalization. Belfort has beaten guys 50 pounds heavier then them with his speed. remember bruce lee. and what about jet li and jackie chan. movie stars yeah but they can really kick *** to.
so shut up with the stupid questions. i would kill everyone here with my desert eagle nomatter how fast or powerful you think you are
