i have tried several, and want to know some other people's opinions. i have a pretty bad problem, and i have had no luck at all with the enzyme cleaners. i won't use them anymore, because they only help for a short time.

I start with sprinkling plain old baking soda on the carpet. let it set. if still smells i use a mixture of amonia, vinegar and liquid carpet cleaner. it works best if you rent one of those steam suction cleaners and add the amonia and vinegar to the cleaning solution. If you can't do that just scrub the carpet with the amonia mixture and blot up as much moisture as you can. then once it is dry then keep sprinkling baking soda and letting it set until all smell is done. if you don't use a rental steam cleaner you may have to scrub the carpet with the amonia/vinegar solution a couple of times. I have moved into places that the cats used the spare bedroom carpet as its bathroom the carpet was saturated with urine. this did the trick.

This MAY work, but I think that it will cover up the Amonia/Urine scent. I would suggest using a urine cleaning product that contains enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reaction. When the enzymes enter the space of the area that smells like urine it will eat away and break down the chemical compostition of the cat/dog urine, thus eating away at the scents, then making it odorless. I hope that helps.

If something like Nature's Miracle is not getting it out, then you are not getting deep down to the pad with it. It may be time to replace the carpet with washable floors and scatter rugs if you have a pet that's not trained.

HI SEELIE,
it has been my experience that arm & hammer carpet fresh powder is the best and really does work well. all you do is sprinkle it into her box after cleaning the box and also sprinkle the
powder on the carpets all around your house and around her box. i mean i've had friends over and they have said how good it smells in my house. and i say oh yeah, right it smells like cat box and they say no it really smells good in here. sooooo that is what my secret is======but don't tell anybody, ok ???

First is your cat a male? If it is, he could be picking up scent from the last furry occupant. Anyway, try vinegar and water. If this doesn't work, lots of lysol disinfectant spray. Need to know more? Let me know.

You can use phenols. they are really good. Better you use an ordinary room freshner and spray on it. Cat urine isn't so stinky is it????
