I don't know if you did something wrong that you can reduce the chances of receiving a ticket. You should always act respectable to a police officer if you did what they are saying or not. That is what we have courts for. And if you don't the ticket could be much harder.
Remember they are only doing there job to keep us all safe. If you get a speeding ticket I don't know about in all states but you can go to court on it and the judge will reduce the points and maybe you will get off on just a fine. Not always true but most of the time from what I have seen.

When pulled over, pull over as quickly and safely as possible. Turn the car off and leave your hands on the steering wheel. The officer will be less defensive this way. If the offense is minor, the officer will have more latitude in allowing leniency compared to a more serious driving offense. Be totally honest and sincere if asked about the circumstances of the incident. But also remember what you say and do can be used in a court of law so if the incident is more than a minor one, it may be best to keep quiet and provide only your driver's license and insurance registration card (if applicable) when asked.

Cops have an authority thing going. They always end up ticketing anybody that asserts themselves.
It's been studied - they've shown cops are the least likely to ticket someone who looks completely pathetic and inoffensive. So if you can act nervous and fumble through you papers and say you're sorry a lot, avoid eye contact and look completely harmless, you might just get away with it.

Saw this in a movie once
1)When he starts to pull you over, punch it. Drive irratically, swerving everywhere.
2) When you do finally pull over, after about a minute, lock the brakes and slide to a stop.
3) Jump out of the car, flailing your arms and legs, running like you're being chased by a lion.
4) When the officer gets out and starts giving orders to you, scream at the top of your lungs BEES!!!!!!!!!"
5) fall on the ground rolling and swatting.

I'd say do like my daughter used to do start crying a lot. It worked every time until she got pulled over by a female cop.
But since you are a guy that doesn't work for us guys.
Your best bet is to be real polite and real nice.with a lot of yes Sirs and no Sirs.
And no lame excuses. You'll stand a better chance of getting just a warning if you don't throw out a bunch of lame excuses at him or her. they have heard it all before.

It depends on what you did, if you have license, reg, proof of insurance, all your tags up to date, and no lights out, etc.
Just be calm, polite, and friendly. But, if you have done something serious, like 15 mph over the speed limit, or something worse, then don't expect a warning.
Pizza man (spends more time on the road in a year than most people do in ten).

Asking for directions has worked for me in the past. Also, when i'm in the wrong, I usually admit it immediately. He'll say, do you know why I pulled you over? And I'll say, Yes, I was going a little fast back there. i usually don't get a ticket.
oh, and I always address the officer as 'sir'.

BE polite. Don't give BS excuses. Apologize.
I've gotten out of probably 20 tickets - even by a female dallas cop...not by crying though - just by probably talking so much they want to get rid of me? and being polite of course.
