It is probably from doing the sit ups. But you need to treat the soreness, try taking an over the counter pain med like Motrin and putting some ice packs on the sore areas. It is important to remember to keep taking a deep breath and cough every so often so that you will not develop atelectasis(collapsing of the alveoli in your lungs) from not breathing deep enough because of the pain. Next time don't try to be Superman and take it slow when doing exercises, do small sets like maybe 15 at a time until you build up your stamina.

Sure it could be, especially if you don't do this many sit-ups on a regular basis. Sounds like you may have just strained the muscles in the ribcage. If you have no ongoing acid reflux, I'd suspect some rest is in order. Injuries to the ribs can take a bit of time to heal, still, if you have any sharp pain or tightness in the area of your heart and/or pain that radiates to an arm, don't hesitate to go to the E.R., better safe than sorry...and it won't hurt a bit (unlike sit-up contests!). Luckily, we lizards don't worry about such things...ever see a lizard do a sit-up? Didn't think so!

The soreness is caused by the exercise. You could of possibly pushed yourself too hard.Get some rest and take a warm bath or put a warm comprass on your ribs.

Pain that comes and goes is usually not associated with a heart attack, however there are many other just as serious diseases that could be the culprit. It could be anything from angina to passing gall stones! Please see a doc. What's the worst that can happen? You doc'll say, "Oh yeah it's just gas...." or something. But the trip could save your life. :)
