They always show up at dinner time or some other inconvenient moment ( Like when I'm taking a crap). Does their religion require them to do this??

Well, no it's not a requirement of the religion to go out on a mission in the LDS religion, meaning in order to be LDS you aren't required to go on a mission. The Mormon church, to it's members is known as the LDS (Latter-day Saints) because the name of the church is actually, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many however choose to do so and are sent around the world to do so, and come from around the world to do so. They believe in the teachings of the church and just want to share what they know with others. Most missionaries aren't meaning to be a nusiance. They don't intentionally knock on your door when they know you're sitting down to dinner, like spy on you out side, wait for you to sit down and say.. okay knock! Or with the other instance as well. LDS missionaries aren't generally aren't known as being pushy (unfortunately not sure why that's usually does go to people of the Jehoviah Witnesses) If you don't want to hear their message, either don't answer your door, or politely tell them you aren't interested and they will most likely just wish you well and be on their way.

As for one of the other comments meant to answer your question. If you look up the meaning of the word "cult" every religion would fit the discription. Second, you can read anything bad about anything if you look hard enough. Scandal has probably happened in some way in every religion if you dig hard enough to find it. Some more so than others. Did you know that it was legal in the late 1800's in America to kill someone who was known to be LDS and that the prophet that restored the church was brutially murdered along with his brothers and associates? Education about a religion, from someone who is actually knows about it first hand and appreciates it, is the best way to find out about the religion. In my opinion anyway.

I'm sure you're question was in jest and you didn't want any serious answers, but being a member of the LDS church I wanted to at least put my two cents in. Thanks for reading!

Okay, I'm Catholic, but really interested in every other religion's point of view. They did show up at my house while I was making dinner once! So I wanted to see what it was about and questioned them alot. I gather that it is part of their religion to have to leave their families for a period of time to spread the word of their belief that Jesus didn't die and ascend to Heaven but instead came to America. They have to do it like Catholics get 1st communion and other religions get saved. But I really don't know why they go around at night. Maybe trying to catch people after work?

in my part of the country it is the Jehovah's Witnesses doing that. They are trying to "work" to get to heaven, though the Bible says heaven is a gift freely given, not by works that any man should boast. To receive the gift just ask for it sincerely.

Those would probably be Jehovah's Witnesses who are required to go door to door. I wish they would find something else to do. Their religious beliefs do not bother me. I am not interested, though. It is like my mother-in-law asking who is gay and who isn't gay. I don't know. It doesn't bother me. It is a private matter. It is rude to ask.

Its the Jehovah's Witness and yeah they are required to do it. They're trying to be a "witness" to others.
