Listen, as an ex-Muslim who has been reading extensively into Islamic history and literature and debating Muslims for the last three years, I can tell you there's very little use in asking Muslims to explain things to you. First off, questions like yours are very unpopular on Yahoo Answers because people here like to think they're liberal and unbiased and any anti-Islamic message is quickly perceived as Islamophobia, Islam-bashing, racism, ignorance, or whatever you want to call it. You'll get insults and people will pass judgement on you quite stupidly. Second, there's a media for everything, and the media for Islam is very powerful, even in the West. Pro-Islamic media on the radio, telivision, the Internet, magazines and newspapers and books, etc. will only portray Islam in a positive light and will not draw any attention to its more controversial aspects. Third, yes, you're right to an extent when you say that if you don't convert you die. At the time of Muhammad's early wars 1,400 years ago he was quoted as saying that once a non-Muslim people were conquered, they would have three choices - (1) Convert to Islam and become full citizens of the empire (2) Not convert to Islam but live as "dhimmis" - Dhimmis were second-class citizens who had to follow a set of many restrictions. For example, they weren't allowed to bear arms, or worship in public, or join the army, or preach their religion, they had to provide food and shelter for Muslim soldiers, sometimes they had to wear special bands to show they were non-Muslim, and they had to pay significantly higher taxes than Muslims. Finally, if they accepted neither option, they would be killed. And in spite of this law, whatever people tell you, forced conversions did occur, and because of forced conversions, people converting to Islam because they were suffering too much from their dhimmi status, non-Muslims leaving their Muslim-occupied countries in huge numbers like the Zoroastrians of Iran, and more and more Arab Muslims settling all over the Empire, non-Muslims gradually became a tiny minority. As a final note I'd like to add that in at least 8 Islamic countries, ex-Muslims are killed, and in others, it's very dangerous to leave Islam. This law also has its roots in Muhammad's Ahadeeth.

You are correct. I have read an English translation of the Qur'an and that's pretty much what I get from it. And as is recorded in history, as painful for some as it may be, the religion was in fact spread by the sword. Look at the medieval history of Eurasia being converted by bloody conflicts along with the historically Muslim African countries...also converted by armed invaders.
The Qur'an clearly says, Do Not Be Friends with The JEW or the CHRISTAIN. This is actually in one of the passages, and in those words. They cannot dispute that is their belief and teaching when asked directly.
Tolerance is not in the vocabulary. Follow Allah, the Prophet, and the Qur'an or they are taught they must fight the unbeliever.
Everyone should go out to one of the big chain bookstores (Books-A-Million, etc) and get their own copy of the Qur'an or Koran or whatever its called on the cover, and actually read for yourself what the Muslim Holy Book teaches its followers. You can get a paperback copy for about five bucks. Get it from the horses mouth, don't believe me.

Mohammad's teachings are all about peace and tranquility in the World and Hereafter. You were misinfomed when you said that if you don't convert...you must die because in Islam there is no coercion in religion, if you obey, then it will be good, if you refuse, then let God be the judge. Just read what the non-muslim scholars say about Mohammad and ask the Christian Priests who converted to Islam about his teachings, they all knew about it and they can let you understand it better than what the medias say about Islam.

Mohammad was a man who wrote a book. Any educated person can write a book. Men are flawed. What makes Muslims believe in a flawed, man-made book? Why would God have a man write a book to start a stupid religion....any religion? The answer is....God never told anybody to write any books or to fabricate any religion.

It's not accurate at all: the Quran says only that 'infedels' are doomed to an after-life in Hell, not that they must die; in facts, the Quran says also not to attack infedels because they'll get what they deserve on the Judgment Day.

Yes, I believe it to be accurate based on what I have seen.
I will be honest with you. Jesus resurrected from the grave. No other spiritual leader has this claim, not Mohammed, Buddha or any of them. They all died with nothing to validate their authority other than the appeal of thier own spiritual philosophy. Christ, on the other hand based the validity of His claims of who He was and what He taught upon His ability to conquer death.
Which one do you want to trust?

Yes his teaching are molded to this way; he may not taught it but according to present day Islam it sounds that this religion is being used abruptly.
