It will remove particulate pollution (and deposit it into the ground) for the time it's raining. However, the pollutants will soon return.

air pollutants adhere to the rain drops so after the rain air pollutants are gone. that's what happened why there is acid rain. Acid rain is a broad term referring to a mixture of wet and dry deposition (deposited material) from the atmosphere containing higher than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids.

It sure cleans the air during forest fire season.
It does become a bit like dirty wash water if the air is filthy. I have also noticed in Spring when the trees are blooming and it rains, the puddles have rings of pollen round them. Then we can stop sneezing for a bit.

Very. Ever see smog after a rainstorm. Of course, this doesn't apply to the upper atmosphere.
