The reason we have such an outbreak of anorexia and other eating disorders in this country is directly related to the garbage we feed our young children on TV and in print. They see these stars who are barely able to keep up a size "0" pants and they are followed and glorified to the point that our kids believe this is the picture of success.

God determines each body's own natural "set point" weight. It varies from person to person. It is just a s wrong to overeat and abuse the body as it is to under-eat and abuse it. That said, we should all follow our God-given common sense about what to eat and how much to eat and let our bodies decide what we should weigh.

There is no such thing as a perfect body. The sooner we all realize that the better off we'll be.

I know the media doesn't play into my body insecurities. However, every time I go into a department store and try on clothes, that does. Those horrible lights! The ghastly mirrors! Seriously, when is a department store going to figgure out that soft lighting & flattering mirrors will sell far more clothing?

Some stores (LL Bean, for example) are beginning to sell custom-tailored clothing at mass-produced prices, while others (like Wrangler's Aura jeans) are providing more choices in cut than ever before, accounting for wide variabilities in body shape. This is only the beginning of the new way of selling clothes cheaply. Some day soon you will get all of your clothing custom-made at mass-production prices. Then, I think, the stranglehold of the fashion industry, that tells us we need to have a certain height-to-weight-ratio distributed in particular locations, will be broken on our individual psyches and we'll all feel a lot better about ourselves.

We are a nation who has forfeited our value system to the media. The media finds it easiest to kindle coveting / got to have attitudes using people like we would like to resemble. Few of us have taken the time/done the work to accept our bodies as they are. So, we do the next best thing and try to model those whom we are told have done that work.
Thank you, btw for making the man 62. I'm 59 and have 3 years left to live evidently by Madison Avenue's standards.

Because we as a society allow them to.

The media will only sell what sells.

Perfect is as always in the eye of the beholder, but unfortunately we are being conditioned from a young age on what beauty should be.

Because they are told what to tell you. When they tell you what the latest fashion trend is, they are really telling you to go out and buy more clothes.
