It’s not that I’m afraid of the sickness and loss of loved ones but it makes me sad to know that I must wait until it’s my turn to pass away too to see them again. It is the loss of their company that we miss. If they were very sick or in much pain before they die as my husband was then it is a blessing to see them go. It is not easy to watch a loved one in pain and not be able to do anything about it. Just knowing that we will be together again in eternity helps us to get through this life without the ones that go before us.◙

Any rational person who loves will be afraid of such things. Those who say that they aren't are too young to have had the experience. It is hard to see our relatives and friends die and be alone. Yes, I know we have God. But He is not enough. That is why there was not just Adam and God. The greatest fear is to be old, poor, sick and alone. I try not to think about it and just live one day at a time and find what joy that I can.

In 1998, two of my cousins died in a terrible car crash. And my sister almost joined them. The drunk boy driving the car they were in lost control of the car and went through a town sign when he was speeding. The pole surrounding the sign went through the back of the car. It hit my sister first, took an 8x4x2 inch gash out of her abdomen and hit her pelvis. It then bent and went through both of my cousins. My girl cousin it killed instantly. The boy cousin died in the ambulance an hour and a half later after they had cut him out of the car. And my sister suffered through years of surgery, physiotherapy, and mental anguish.
In 1999, my uncle was killed in a car driven by his drunk best friend. They hit a police cruiser head on in South Africa.
In 2003, my mother died of lung cancer after a long and painful suffering. It would have been mercy if she had died sooner. She was a good woman and didn't deserve to suffer.
In 2004, I was hit by a car crossing the street and it nearly killed me. I had bleeding in my brain in two places, a skull fracture, a spleen injury, and my left tibia/fibia were broken all the way through. I had to have major surgery to put me back together again. And so I came face to face with death.
I'm not afraid of death and I've learned to accept that its just a natural part of life. I only hope that it doesn't hurt the ones I love. But there's no guarantee of that. That's life. Its best to simply learn to accept that it's a natural and normal part of existance rather than dwell on the terror of it all. There's a strange peace in acceptance.
It no longer scares me. Looking death in the whites of his eyes will do that to you.

Why be afraid? Fear causes more sickness and disease than anthing else. When you look at 'dis' 'ease' as two seperate words, that says something. We can choose to believe or not.

I'm afraid of a loved one suffering before dying...I'm afraid of my child dying before me...but otherwise, we all have to die so its just a matter of accepting that truth, and knowing that wherever their souls are going, it can't be any worse than here...

It's nothing that I want to see happen, that's for sure...there is a sense of being powerless to fix it..but I guess that's what it is about..leaving it in God's hands..after all, He created us, He ought to be able to manage any situation of our lives.

Pretty much everybody I imagine. It's one of those human dilemas, the only solution is not to think about it too much.
