Then why all the military bases, including the one bigger than the Vatican? Wasn't the war just imperial conquest pure and simple? Please no references to 9/11. The whole, "we have to face threats before they materialize" justification is getting a little tired.

I know you have to assume it's a necessary war, especially when you have skin in the game. I hope all your loved ones return safely. Bush never cared about them. I do.

No. I'm pretty sure Bush doesn't think he owns Iraq. 911 was the excuse, but not the reason we went in. And going in was a horrible mistake. By the way, the Vatican isn't that big, so there are a lot of military bases that are far bigger than the Vatican, so why is that a big deal. It wasn't an imperial conquest, because we never intended to stay and always meant to set up a democratic and stable government and then get out. Imperial conquest requires the conqueror to stay and rule the vassal state. I agree that Iraq was no threat to us. We should have just stayed where we were in Saudi Arabia partolling the no-fly zone for years. It would have saved many, many lives and many, many billions of dollars (and the latest election for the Republicans) and I think Bush would have been able to more easily privatized Social Security, but he used all his clout elsewhere. Iraq was a bulwark against Iran and Syria. Now it isn't and Iran and Syria are much more powerful in the region as a result. Now there is the threat of a war with Iran. Now there really is a threat to our security. God, we messed up big time. But don't say the mistake was about old fashioned faciscm or imperialism. That's an old model that doesn't work here.

I think it really comes down to the fact that war doesn't really work anymore. America is powerful and, from time to time, we want to prove it. We are a superpower after all and don't like it when people thumb their noses at us. That's was Saddam did. We had to show him and our passions got the better of us. If we would have been less hawkish, we might have been able to do what we needed to do in Afghanistan and would be in a much stronger position today. But I think it was about showing the rest of the world that they ought not mess this us. Only the rest of the world showed us.

At this time, I don't think Bush believes he owns anything. He wants his presidency to end, go back to Texas, and have Laura take care of him.

Lawyers,Guns and Money-my favorite subject! The Oil Industry has been lining the pockets and influencing our upper politicains for so long we can't help but be just like Russia (corruption wise) It is so much cheaper to invade and imperialize than to rightfully buy the oil.

No President Bush does not think that he 'owns' Iraq.

BTW - I really do not believe about your claims that you care more about the troops than the President does. (What have you done for us?)

Bush doesn't think he owns Iraq, he knows it.

And that's why there's a resistance.
