It depends on what you are testing for. Ask your doctor if he/she wants you to do a fasting test or not. If it is a blood sugar test usually fasting, but sometimes they want to see how high it gets so they want you to eat before hand, and may test over several hours to see how long it takes your blood sugar level to drop.

it depends what you're getting tested for.. and what you're eating... like if you eat poppy seeds... you can test positive for drugs... for 30 days!!!...
