Bear with me. We like our neighbors, they're all good people, but we rarely see them. Our cat lost his collar a few days ago when he escaped out the door. I got a new collar for him, but he never came back. That was 4 days ago, going on five. He's chipped, but nobody's called. We're worried he's trapped in the neighbor's garage. And that's how our previous cat died, in their garage, and they were so apologetic and offered to get us a new cat, which we declined at the time. It's just that they rarely use their garage, so our kitty could be locked in.

What's the most polite way to knock on the door and ask to check inside their garage to see if our kitty is in there??

Since it's happened before, I'm sure they wouldn't be offended at all if you were just to say "Our new cat's been gone for a few days, and we were just wondering if we could take a look in the garage and see if he found his way in there like the last one."

I hope you find him!

Just knock on the door and explain that your cat has been missing for a few days and that you're wondering if they've seen it or if it might have sneaked into their garage when nobody was looking and gotten trapped in there. There is nothing impolite about asking your neighbors to check their garage. I'm sure they'll understand your concerns.

Good luck! I hope your cat is ok and that you'll find it soon.

I'd go over there and ask. They should be more than willing to check or help look considering the previous loss, and their part in it. It's kind of wierd that they offered to get you a new cat...cats are pets and therefore a part of the family, it seems somewhat strange that they see this as so "replaceable." Go ask. If history has repeated itself, ask that they check their garage every few days or so. Good luck, I'm praying for you all!

Since this has occurred before they are familiar with the sitution. Just walk up to the door and ring the bell and say, "I'm sorry to disturb you but would please open your garage so that our cat can come out ." In this way you aren't giving them the option to deny that your cat is in there. They will open it and if the cat doesn't come out then just say, "oh, I'm sorry, I thought for sure he would be in there like the other one since he hasn't come home for a few days."
You need to keep better track of your pet.

I dont think that this is even an issue. Why wouldnt you knock on their door and ask to see if your cat is in there? I would have gone there immediately, especially since that happened before.

Although, I have to say, four days is a looooong time. If your cat is in there, he may not be alive.

The most honest way is the best way. You knock and tell them that your car is missing. You realize that is a different cat; but if they have a moment to just double check. Then you know for sure. It would be best to put up some flyer's in the neighborhood.

Just knock. When they come to the door, laugh a little bit while explaining what the problem is. Be apologetic, admit it might be crazy but considering what happened last time, they'll understand.

Just go ask. Tell them that considering the past that you think there is a chance your cat is in their garage. And do it FAST.

Just like you said. They should understand due to the trauma in the garage before.

Just knock and say,"the new cat is missing, thought maybe it'd be in your garage."
