historically this has been done in the many crusades between the two (did you know that had the Muslims won the crusades, Christianity would be a minority among religions and the US would be predominately Islamic? interesting fact). so the actual killing was the conversion. when the christians had victory in muslim territory, the muslims were either already dead or forced to convert, and vice versa when the muslims had victory in christian territory. religion was more of a political issue back in the day in comparison to modern day where church and state have been seperated in most countries and tolerance of all beliefs has been encouraged.
well, anyway, both of these religions preach acceptance and peace, but both, especially most christians, feel some sort of obligation and eagerness to convert and "save" everyone. in each of these religions, it is really stressed that this is the "correct" religion and there is no room left for question, making some people pretty wacko. but in modern day, religious fanaticism is rare.

Islam does not say this. Islam says to honor peace treaties and live in peace with those who live in peace with you, but if the other party wrongs you it's all out war. That's the only time that type of stuff is allowed. There are many verses that talk about leaving nonmuslims to themselves, "to you be your way and to me be mine". Let there be no compulsion in religion. Their is a verse also that says "Are you going to force them to believe when they don't want to???". Also, there is a hadith that talks about a person leaving islam, then coming back three times going back and forth then in the end saying no matter what, it's between that person and Allah. How can one leave and come back multiple times if they are dead?

in the case of islam, i believe that there is no such thing like that.. for instance prophet Mohammed's (pbuh) uncle didn't convert to islam..did he get killed?.. i think not... everyone has the right to practice the religion they want.. its their choice...
PS: before anyone tries to convert anyone, they should first see if they themselves follow their religion properly

I believe that you are mistaken...
I know that KILLING is AGAINST the Fifth Commandment of THE LAW.
I don't know about the 'other' religion's commandment though.
Peace be with you.

Get a life. I ask you to quote a passage from the Bible where God tells His people to kill the unbelievers (in general, not a specific people in a specific battle) like 'Allah' does in the Koran.

I don't know. What are the two largest religions? The Christian faith does not teach that!
