why do alot of taxi driver and tow truck driver look unkempt ,unshaved ,and like they need a bath?

i think that your answer lies within your question. look at the jobs you listed. now think about the hours of such jobs (around the clock). lots of taxi drivers work up to 16 hours a day, sometimes more. tow truck drivers are the same way.plus a lot of tow truck drivers work at their shops as mechanics, which is not a very clean job either. so they ll put in their days work, go home have dinner relax and go to bed. if a call comes in then they have to get out of bed to go on a tow at 2am cause some drunk plowed his car into a utility pole. although there is no excuse for not bathing on a regular basis, sometimes you can catch people at the wrong times (towards the end of their shifts).

Understand that tow-truck operators work in some fairly nasty conditions, accident scenes, rotten weather. They are exposed to messes like grease, oil, sometimes blood, coolant, mud, rain, snow, ice, slush, etc. There aren't many who can work in that environment and stay perfectly neat and tidy.
Taxi drivers have less of an excuse, however, there are times when they work in bad weather too. I think you might notice the ones you do because they are the exception and stand out more readily from the other, more well dressed drivers.
Can't say this is authoritative, just my opinions.

Because they spend 12 to 14 hours a day behind the wheel - and the tow truck drivers spend a lot of time under the hood or crawing underneath cars.

Those are very rough blue collar jobs, dude... those men and women work very hard for their money, and they're too busy working to be fashion plates!

They dress up on their day off!

cause they work alot of hours and are on the road for days, sometimes even weeks at a time and the most of the time spent working they are either by themselves or at a truckstop and dont really gotta impress any one. most do shower daily though. they got pay showers at alot of truck stops.

These people work irregular hours at night and on weekends. Many of them don't get enough sleep and don't feel good as a result. And when people don't feel good, then they often don't take good care of themselves.
