Blistex Herbal Answer has proven to be much better than any of the others listed above. I have tried them all. I live in Wisconsin and am outdoors a lot in the winter so I know chapped lips. In the last ten years I believe I have tried everything on the market. Several of them do quite well but the Herbal Answer from Blistex is the best for me.
Avoid licking your lips because the saliva is supposed to help break down what you eat so it also breaks down the skin on your lips.
Drink fluids. Caution, caffienne actually pulls water OUT of your body so that is not a good option. Fruit juices or just good old water would be best.
Hope that helps....

Forget the chapstick.
Buy a bottle of Vit-E capsules 1000mg.
Cut a slit in the end of a capsule and apply the oil to your lips.
It has no odor and no bad taste, and it stays on much better than chapstick does.
Do this as often as you like until your lips are healed.
I personally, use it every day to keep my lips moist and protect them from cold or heat.

I think most brands work. Are you a little dehydrated. You might need more fluid intake.
I get chappy lips all the time. It's usually when I don't drink enough water.
Being out in the wind or a fever also causes me to have chapped lips. A fever also causes dehydration.

I love Soft Lips. I get the vanilla kind. Works great everytime!
I suggest, before you go to bed, "scrubbing" you lips with a new toothbrush but be gentle! It will just exfoliate your lips. Then apply a nice layer of chapstick and go to sleep. Your lips will be nice and soft when you wake up.

Carmex. It's a medicated lip balm. I personally think it's the best out of the store bought selections.

It is better to use Vaseline because it heals faster than chapstick.

Yeah, I have to agree... Carmex is good stuff. It comes in a tube or a little round cannister thingy. But I did see a new one from Aveeno but haven't tried it yet.
