The mashed potato concept has some merit. It worked for Richard Dreyfus in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

When you focus your attention upon the illumined Master, Christ Jesus, you will find the teacher always arrives when the student is ready.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, That when you seek me with all of your heart, then you will find me. If you want a close encounter with God that will change your life, then you will have to forsake all the sin in your life which you from getting close to Him. Praying and fasting is a good way to get a close encounter with God.

Because Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him...your neighbor never died for you and rose from the dead, conquering death, hell and the grave, so that you might have eternal life with God, and not have to suffer eternal separation from your maker in hell...That's why Him and not someone else.
Ask Him to come into your heart...He hears those that are of a humble heart.

love your enemy and your neighbour, and you are close to jesus.

if your enemy wishes to harm you physically or emotionally. Then walk away. This is showing love, by not staying around to receieve harm nor to allow anger to attack back.

Jesus is in everyone you see, and in every animal too.

You r close encounter is all of these, and even when you look in the mirror.

Your neighbor may be the first step to getting closer to Jesus. He says how could you love me whom you never seen and you don't love your neighbor who you see every day?

The most important think is to be close to God. He is the one who will answer to u and not Jesus. We Muslim believe in Jesus (peace be upon him), but we worship his creator: God who created Moises, David and others.

God is a spirit and He seeketh such to worship Him in spirit and in truth......

So, it is that if you want to be closer, you have to be true to your search in spirit......

Not with idols or with a dead sense of hope...... but wholly committed to your search for Him......

It is written: Knock... and the door will be opened unto you......

Believe that!!!..... The answer itself, will be found within you.... (Luke 17:21)

Pray. If you want to seek Him and get closer to Him, pray. Pray and seek him with all your heart and you'll find Him close to you.

I personally had this very same question at one time in my life. I learned all about Jesus Christ growing up and how He is our Savior. One thing stood out as I learned about Him--That He knows me. I thought how could He know me when I do not know Him? I took it upon myself to get to know Him by any and every means possible. I was directed to a scripture in my search that said "Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." (D&C 88:63) I did as this scripture directed by reading the scriptures, mostly upon the life of the Savior. I abstained from anything that would offened God. I prayed unto Him with a sincere heart having faith in Christ that God would answer. I tried to live as the Savior lived, free from malice and contentions. Serving and loving every person as the Savior would. I tried to follow the Savior's example. Today I can tell you with every fiber of my being that I came to know the Savior! I sought Him out in word and deed. He then drew near unto me. I have felt the Holy Ghost bear witness unto me that Christ is our Lord and Redeemer. I have learned of Christ Himself what I need to do through out my life. Jesus Christ is my friend, my Savior, my Redeemer, and my God whose love I have felt. I too can say, as many others have, that when I die and am brought before the Savior in person that I will not know any better than I know now that Christ lives and loves me and all of God's children. I encourage you and any other person who wants to come to know the Savior personally to ponder in your hearts what I have said. I encourage you to do as I have done in my efforts to draw yourself near unto him. Faith is not just a belief, it is works in our Lord. Christ has made known unto me that it wouldn't be easy, but it would be worth it. I solemnly give you my promise that if you do these things that you will come to know Jesus Christ as I have, and I bear you my personal witness in the name of Jesus Christ.
