During those times a messenger would go to the places where a king was planning to visit to prepare the roads for him. In this way, John wanted people to listen and make their lives ready so the Lord would come to them. To prepare for Jesus' coming to us, we must focus on Him, read His Word, and respond obediantly to His directions.
