Here's a question...why do they have to ring that bell incessantly?? Everyone knows they are there...It is annoying.

We all should give until it hurts! We all know it is especially important to give what you can this time of year. The bell ringing is over the top as far as I'm concerned.

The Salvation Army does a very good job. Takes in the homeless, provides drug counselling, gives employment, and doesn't take a ton of the money for overhead. That said, depends on the cash I've got at the time. Feel chincy if I've only got $1 or 2 in my wallet (use debit card most of the time in stores), I feel a lot better if I can $5 or $20. Watch their eyes light up with a twenty! After all, if you got money to spare,$20 only buys lunch for two of us. So dig in folks, you'll feel good and they will feel good.

My salvation army stands in 75 degree weather on the central coast of California ... but I don't give or not give because of the weather. I gave $20 the last time I passed the bell ringer because everyone else was ignoring his glance and he looked so bored.

If all you can give is a little bit of change out of your pocket OK. Even a dollar is OK. If you're rich you can give more. But I'm a firm believer in Tithing first. I Tithe to the ministry or ministries that feed me spiritually.

If you are out of a job or don't have too much money don't feel guilty about not giving.

I don't have a lot of money to spare, but I never pass one without putting my spare change or a dollar in. When I do have extra money, I usually put two or three dollars in, depending on how many I run into.

I totally agree. I always make sure to have a handful of change and singles everytime I go shopping, even though I use my debit card to shop with. Last year, my sister and I bought coffees and hot cocoa for the bell ringers, too. I buy from the SA a lot, and think they do a lot of good.

Most people I know say the min is 10% of your annual income to all good causes put together, some churches say 10% to them and what ever you can afford to others.

I believe you should let your heart do the giving. There is no right or wrong amount. Whatever you can afford to give, be it a dollar or five dollars, as long as it comes from the heart.
