The Nordic countries are overall the best countries to live in the world, according to the Human Development Report which is published annually by the United Nations.
I find that it is usually people who have never traveled outside the US who hold the view that the US is the greatest place on earth.
While we may be the richest with the most powerful military, we don't have a good track record on how we value "regular folks".

Actually America has a lot more in common with our enemies than with our allies in the religion department. Countries in the UN, Canada, and all of our other allies are mostly secular and religion is not a factor in politics while our enemies use religion over common sense. In this country, which was meant to have separation of church and state, it's illegal for Atheists to testify in court or even run for office in many states and any politician who doesn't mention "God" in speeches is criticized. Oh yes, the US is a perfect place for Atheists to live peacefully, isn't it?

I find it so easy to take it for granted that I'm Canadian. It's so easy to forget how much I am blessed with, while others suffer without. We really are lucky. ^_^

No, not really. It's hard to thank something that doesn't exist. I'm not particularly proud to be an American these days, either.
