He meant somthing VERY important, which Most christians and church leaders to this day Still do not understand .
"you will keep MY commandments" meaning, forget all else that is written in the bible, and follow his example.
How many times did he help a tax collector? or someone who the older bible would claim , you should throw stones at.
" i am the way and the light" not " the church is the way, and the bible the light"
He always Showed Love. Without judgement.
Do this, and you love Him. Regardless of what others in a church think.
His commandments are everything to do with Love.
And remember this, Love is NOT Fear.
Do not be afraid of what you do, for the Lord loves YOU.
Woe to those who judge God's children, and send them into the dark, for when the Lord returns, He shall be so angery, that he will send out those who kicked out his children in his "name".

Jesus reiterated every one of the 10 commandments in the four gospels, Including the fourth, Mat 12:8 and Mark 2:27,28. Remember that Jesus kept the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH, and unequivocally stated that HE IS LORD OF THAT DAY! Plus there is not a single 'Thus saith the Lord' for changing that God Given, God Sanctified, God Hallowed, Day. Gen 2:1-3.; Ecc 12:13; Isa 48:19; Rev 12:17; 14:12.

No not the 10 commandments. Read Romans. The commandments even though true and still to stand are not what Jesus was referring to.
His commandments He taught to His disciples that we should follow.

Jesus was talking about all of His commandments. Such as Love your enemies, do good to them that hate you. Owe no man anything except love. Give Father God your heart, and not just your religion. Love you, one another even as I have loved you. Be a servant to one another.
There are many more and they are a fullfillment of the Ten Commandments. A complete explaination of how one acted in keep the original 10.

Somewhere in the Bible,A bunch a people ask Jesus what is the most important commandment. Jesus said :'Hear, o Israel, the Lord our God is One.You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, your whole soul and your whole mind. You shall love your neighbour like you love yourselve.
A rich young man ask Jesus what he must do to deserve eternal life and Jesus told him to observe the Law(torah) and shell his earthly possesion.

the ten commandments were from god, not christ--christ would have been referring to the commandments he himself had made
