Boxing has major rules, Octagon fighting is pretty much don't kick a guy in the nuts or bite. Octagon fighter should win because they are mostly grapplers. If someone went toe to toe maybe the boxer might win, but that's a big maybe with kicks and the like.

I am a trained boxer at one time I fought in Tough Man contest and I won a couple of them at the time I was fighting in them you could do everything and you fought 5 times in one night and there was no weight class and i weighed 175 and the big est guy I fought was 275lbs. A I fought people with different skills I know a boxer would do well until someone gr abed him then it would come down to heart it hurts me to say this but if you took the top ranked octagon fighter and he fought the top ranked heavy weight boxer I would bet on the octagon fighter I don,t like octagon fighting because I dint like seeing two men hold and the when one of them gets the up er had and the other one thinks he,s tired he can tap out and still get paid this is a new sport and I think in the near future we will see someone come along who will put all of the differ ant skill set together and be something that we have never seen right now it,s just a notch above pro Riesling

NEGATIVE!! Boxers are trained to only protect their upper body and fight while standing on their feet. If he is attacked from the waist down (the legs with kicks) or taken to the ground, "GAME OVER".
YES, it's the real thing bro. I used to teach ultimate fighting and fought mostly in Denver and Wyoming myself.
Another thing worth noting, most boxers, when it goes down in the streets, completely lose their form. Probably due to the fact that the rules have changed and they are attacked in ways that are VERY unlike what they are used to and what they have been trained to do in the ring where, pretty much, all of their fighting takes place. In the ring fighters are bound by a set of rules, which makes their moves limited and predictable.

ok with boxing gloves on a boxer would have a chance because i was told by ken shamrock that the striking in real boxing is diffrent from what i do (mma) boxers take there time and try 2 score points so a boxer would probly get more points but srtiking in the cage or mma we strike 2 knock the opponent out. and if the martial artist knew how 2 wrestle the boxer would not havce a chance believe me i have been in karate (striking) since i was 4-5 and i was in like 9th-10th grade i tried 2 mma another student that has been wrestling since 4-5 and i threw 3 punches and by that time he had me in a head lock and i was tapping so the ufc guy would beat a boxer if there r not boxing rules and gloves.

unlikely but possible
the boxer would have to get very hard hits, using a hit-fall back style. If the octagon fighter gets one good hit: it's over.

No way. An octogon fighter would wrap him up and take him to the ground. Boxers train to punch standing up and move around. Octogon fighters are trained for about everything.

anyone can beat anyone on any given day,...
if a boxer got a really good strike in on a fighter of any style,... it could easily mean a loss..
look at what just happened to hughs against st. pierre.... st. pierre struck him twice in the fight,.. the first,.. a punch,.. was almost enough to do it...
