Why are we advised to switch off the cell phones during air travel??

In other words, if you use your cell phone on a plane, you may end up flyiing low- or in the ground!

The pilots are scared that the siganals from you mobile phones will interfere with the operating system of the plane. The fact is, mobile phones dont interfere with the plane signals. I saw myth busters on tv a few months ago, and they did a test on it. It's busted.

what's up with people being cheeky and rebelious? if they say don't do it, don't do it! why risk your life and the lives of other innocent people? even if it wasn't a real threat, why be the one to test that theory out? i just don't get it.
