-because they're afraid that the frequecy use by your cell phone may interfere with the frequencies use by the piolet's instruments. Just like your TV remote control- if you have one of those universal remote controls, it could effect other peoples' TVs.
In other words, if you use your cell phone on a plane, you may end up flyiing low- or in the ground!

Passengers are usually advised to switch off any transmitting devices before take-off and landing. This is the most critical phase of flying and any possible safety measures will be taken to safe-guard passengers safety. New planes require computer-aid in their flying, so possible interference with these systems will need to be avoided. Hence the need to switch off transmitters..
At height, there is room for correction in event of problem when flying, but none when taking-off or landing.

The pilots are scared that the siganals from you mobile phones will interfere with the operating system of the plane. The fact is, mobile phones dont interfere with the plane signals. I saw myth busters on tv a few months ago, and they did a test on it. It's busted.

Because the control signals for air traffic may collide with the signals emitted by the cellphone and cause serious (read REAL serious) problems. I once read a story when a cellphone inside a hospital caused the medical equipment collapse and death of a small child patient on OT.

first of all you ought to be blonde... you're literally not allowed to tutor on your cellular telephone in the course of the flight now to not indicate on take off or landing somewhat because the planes are utilising GPS to navigate and the cellular signal at low altitudes ought to intervene with the flight instruments.

interference with aircraft frequencies. that's why remote control toys aren't allowed either.
what's up with people being cheeky and rebelious? if they say don't do it, don't do it! why risk your life and the lives of other innocent people? even if it wasn't a real threat, why be the one to test that theory out? i just don't get it.
